Creativity is a common thread in Elke Meulendijks' life, and nature is an important source of inspiration. She studied painting and printmaking at the Academy of Visual Arts in Tilburg. Elke is proficient in working with many techniques and uses other materials for her paintings in addition to oil paint. Elke Meulendijks is particularly captivated by treetops and foliage in a wide variety of shades. The sun shining through the leaves and the blue of the sky, just visible through the foliage, make Elke's works distinctly summery and uplifting in a seemingly modest way. Elke often paints outdoors, beneath the trees that inspire her. She knows how to translate the playful interplay of leaves with sun and shadow into her paintings in her own unique way. It is precisely this uninhibited interplay that makes Elke Meulendijks' works timeless, referencing our memories of summer days on forest paths, in large parks or gardens, and the sense of freedom.
